I recently read an article in Athletic Business regarding football and how research is showing that the harmful effects caused by the game could bring it to a sudden death. Dr. Bennet Omalu a forensic pathologist, sited that the research on deceased NFL players could set the wheels in motion for the beginning of the end for football. He believes it’s only a matter of time until the courts start zeroing in and prosecuting for child abuse…WOW!!!
Personally I believe that if the game is taught correctly and if proper safety precautions are taught, football will still be around for a long time. Coaches need to insure that they are stewards of the game and avoid putting athlete’s into situations that would compromise the athlete or the existence of the game.
Life Without Football
Yes football is a contact sport, but so is hockey, lacrosse, soccer (headers) as well as several other sports. Would allowing something as serious as eliminating football cause a ripple effect across other sports? Will this world become a world that lives in a bubble? Not sure what fall would be like without football. Read the entire article here.
